With the spirit of Christmas starting to surround us, the Neni & Me Team decided to gather our kiddies together for a super adorable yet simple craft for the kids to do to kick off this holiday season! We had our kids make and decorate their own gingerbread boys and girls and now you can do the same thing with your kiddies!
Supplies Needed: 1. Brown Paper 2. Kleenex or Tissue Paper (for the stuffing) 3. Glue 4. Scissors 5. Stapler 6. Pencil 7. Markers or Crayons 8. Items to decorate with: Glitter Glue, Pom Poms, Ribbon, Jewels, etc. - All items that we used to decorate were found at Shop 4 Less. 9. Gingerbread Template: Which you can find here.
First, you need to print out the gingerbread template and have your child cut it and trace it onto their brown piece of paper. You need two pieces of the gingerbread man, one piece for the front and one for the back.
Once you have both pieces of the gingerbread man cut out, staple one side together and then stuff it with Kleenex or tissue paper. One or two pieces of Kleenex will work but if you’d like your gingerbread man more “stuffed”, you can always add more.
Once you’re done stuffing, staple the other side together and it should look like this. If there are pieces of the Kleenex hanging out, simply use a pencil or stick to push it inside.
After your gingerbread man is fully assembled, it’s time to start decorating! The kids honestly had tons of fun deciding what to decorate their gingerbread man with. We pretty much let their imaginations run wild and had them do their own thing. And we must admit that they turned out better than expected!
It's honestly amazing at what your kids can do when they let their imaginations run free. Sure, there were some mishaps and some glitter glue that got spread everywhere, but it was a fun day and most of all, the kids definitely enjoyed themselves! These handmade gingerbread boys and girls can also be hole punched and strung and placed on the tree as an ornament. If you end up doing this little project with your kids, please post pictures in the comments below or tag on us Facebook or Instagram. We'd love to see your kids gingerbread creations!
